Why Get a Texas Concealed Handgun
License
- With a
Texas CHL you are exempted form the NICS check when purchasing a
firearm. Basically, your license is
your background check which is always convenient. Normally, the NICS check is not a problem,
but what happens when the FBI has trouble with their computers, the phone
lines, etc…
- You
will learn the laws which can keep you out of more trouble than you can
imagine. Ask an attorney what
happens when someone is involved in a shooting. You had better know the laws of deadly
force and, even then, you could be in for a rough ride. One thing I teach in my class is to give
your attorney something to work with.
Knowing the laws means knowing how to stay both legal AND alive.
- You
will learn the laws of carrying legally.
This is another way that you could end up in legal trouble without
realizing you are even breaking the law.
People have been charged with illegally carrying a firearm even
though they were legal. Traveling
is one example that comes to mind.
- It
could save your life or the lives of your family. This should be the main reason why you
would want to obtain a Texas Concealed Handgun License. If you were one of those who, like me,
were caught up in the hurricane evacuation of the Houston
area then you might appreciate the peace of mind from being able to
protect yourself when the police can’t reach you. If you are considering obtaining a CHL
for this reason, DON’T PUT IT OFF.
It takes at least six weeks and could take more than two months to
get your license in the mail after sending in your paperwork. You can’t carry until you have that
license in your hand.
- It is
also a constitutionally guaranteed right.
Exercise it or lose it.
- It can
be used as a secondary form of identification.
- It’s
good for Five years now.
Obtaining a Texas Concealed Handgun License is not for
everyone. It’s not so you can run around
like a police officer trying to arrest someone.
Personally, I am more than happy to let the police do what we all pay
them to do. Why risk your life when you
don’t have to. However, if you are ever
in a life threatening situation that is when carrying a licensed firearm would
be invaluable. What is your life
worth? Is it worth the risk that the
police will get there in time or that you will be able to call them at
all? It’s a dangerous world, even in America.
Carrying is not for everyone. You have to decide for yourself if you’re ready
to handle the responsibility and that you could actually pull the trigger on
another person who was trying to hurt you.
I don’t live my life in fear and I would never want you to either. My question to you is this; you have
insurance for your house, car, life, etc…
I’m concerned enough to carry insurance on anything of value that I own,
why not my own life?
Bottom line is this. While
there are no guarantees in life, in most cases a firearm can increase your
chances of surviving a life threatening situation against those who would prey
upon you.
